How to choose a palm
Areca palms make up most of our artificial palm trees in Lebanon, and the number of trunks changes the whole look. A single trunk keeps a slim line for a narrow corner or the side of a door. Two or three trunks read fuller, and the 220 cm four-trunk and 250 cm five- and eight-trunk arecas fill a large room or a double-height hall.
For a different outline, the fan palm opens round, pleated leaves at 80 to 215 cm, and the sago palm, or Holland cycas, keeps stiff fronds on a short trunk. The fishtail palm reaches 230 cm, and the traveller's palm spreads its leaves flat, like an open fan, at 160 to 220 cm. Banana, yucca and phoenix palms, and dracaena palms with dried leaves, complete the set.
Indoors, a palm needs only a dusting every few weeks. For a terrace or a pool deck, ask for anti-UV foliage and tell us about afternoon sun, wind and sea air. Set a tall palm in a heavy pot from our ceramic planters, or see the tropical plants for broader leaves.
Questions people ask us
How tall a palm will fit under my ceiling?
Measure from the floor to the ceiling and count the planter in the total height. Areca fronds arch up and outwards, so leave clear space above the top leaves rather than letting them press against the ceiling. If your space falls between two sizes, take the shorter one or ask for a custom height.
Single trunk or several trunks?
It depends on the space around the palm. A single trunk keeps a slim outline for a narrow corner, a hallway or the end of a sofa. Arecas with two to eight trunks read fuller and wider, so they suit an empty corner of a large room, a hotel lobby or a terrace.
Can an artificial palm stand by a pool?
Yes, with anti-UV foliage. Tell us how much direct afternoon sun the spot gets, whether it is windy and how close it is to the sea, so we can advise on the right piece. Use a heavy, wide planter: palm fronds catch the wind, and a light pot can tip.
Which palms suit a shelf or a small flat?
The 30 cm areca sits on a table or a shelf. For the floor of a small flat, look at the 50 cm sago palm, the 80 cm fan palm or a single-trunk areca of 100 to 140 cm, which keep a narrow footprint. The tall multi-trunk pieces need a corner with space around them.
