A Dwarf Pine bonsai at 50 cm, with a shaped trunk and tightly clipped foliage pads in deep green. Pine is the traditional bonsai subject and the least forgiving, since it needs genuine outdoor conditions and years of training.

Here the styling is permanent. At 50 cm it belongs on a desk, a shelf or a low table where it will be seen from close range, which is how bonsai is intended to be read. Dust the pads gently with a soft brush.
