What a commissioned piece involves

The brief. Most commissions start with a space and a feeling rather than a drawing — a lobby that needs a focal point, a shopfront that needs to stop people, an event that needs one photographed moment. Bring us a photo of the space, the dimensions and a rough sense of the effect, and we will come back with a direction.

The design. We work the idea up until the scale, the material and the sightlines are right. Scale is the part clients most often get wrong on their own: a piece that reads well on a screen is frequently too small once it is in a double-height room.

The build. Fabrication happens in our Jdeideh workshop alongside the trees and the signage, which means the same team controls finish and timing and there is no coordination between suppliers to go wrong.

The install. Our own crew delivers and fits the piece, including the fixing and any structural support it needs.

Where sculptures work hardest

Hotel and office lobbies, where a single piece has to carry a large volume. Retail and showroom windows, where the job is to interrupt someone walking past. Restaurants, where a sculptural centrepiece becomes the thing guests photograph. Events and launches, where the piece is the backdrop.

Sculptural work also combines with the rest of what we make — a form wrapped in preserved greenery, or a shape lit with LED neon. Those hybrids tend to be the pieces people remember.
